Located very close to East Croydon train station and on the same road as the iconic Croydon tram line, DWP Membranes were delighted to be invited by the main contractor to waterproof the basement of this shop. Originally used as a storage space and small office, this basement had become neglected and needed major renovations.
On initial inspection visible water ingress was present and no ground drainage was evident... this resulted in a very strong damp smell.
The approach to this project was to install a Type C cavity membrane system. As the main basement area was going to be converted into a restaurant kitchen, it was decided that a fire retardant wall membrane would be installed. This can only be supplied and installed by a Delta registered contractor.
Perimeter and cross floor drainage channel was installed to collect any incoming water, diverting it to a pre-formed sump chamber, allowing for the water to be discharged efficiently.
To complete the system a 20mm floor membrane was laid, then sealed to walls and service entry points.
Having formed a dry box within the basement, the main contractor was then free to complete the dry-lining and lay the t & g flooring. Creating a large usable and clean space for an office, dry storage room and kitchen.
Since the work has been completed the building site has turned into a popular restaurant in the heart of Croydon.
